Tucked into the backyard of a newly built Hamptons-style home in Forestville on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, this custom Dog Grooming Studio shows how a compact backyard building can be tailored around both lifestyle and business needs.
Based on our Foresta design and custom enlarged to better suit the site, this project was designed specifically to accommodate a professional dog grooming studio, with space carefully planned around grooming equipment, storage, washing facilities, and day-to-day workflow.
The result is a light-filled workspace that feels calm, functional, and connected to the garden.
Large double-glazed doors and windows bring natural light deep into the interior while helping maintain comfort year-round. The painted timber interiors and exposed ceiling beams create a clean Scandinavian-inspired feel, while the exterior complements the Hamptons-inspired character of the main residence exceptionally well.
Positioned beside the home’s outdoor entertaining area, the studio integrates naturally into the backyard rather than feeling like a separate commercial space. A separate side access to the studio also allows clients to enter directly without passing through the main residence, making it practical for day-to-day business use. The custom sizing allowed the building to sit comfortably within the available yard while still maintaining usable outdoor space and circulation around the property.
Located in Forestville — a quiet, family-oriented suburb surrounded by bushland and close to Garigal National Park — the project reflects how backyard studios are increasingly being used not only for accommodation or hobbies, but also for home-based businesses wanting a high-quality dedicated workspace.
Today, the studio is home to Seaforth Dog Grooming, a local business serving clients across Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The project demonstrates how a custom backyard studio can create a professional workspace while remaining seamlessly integrated with the main residence and garden.
