Building a cabin with a builder

If you’re short on time or lack the skills, tools or confidence to build a backyard cabin all yourself, working with our builders is a great option. Our building partners have been expertly trained in all aspects of constructing our Scandi Cabins. From helping you choose the right design, through to final handover, our builders will take you step-by-step through the process to help you get your backyard cabin built fast and to the highest standard.

When you partner with our builders, your backyard cabin is built in 8 simple steps. To help you decide if this option is the best choice for you, here’s a breakdown of each step.

You can browse the backyard cabins range online or arrange to visit one of our displays to see them in person. Another great way to find the ideal design is to browse our gallery of completed projects, which gives you a sneak peak into the finished product, where you’re sure to source plenty of design ideas and inspiration. If you wish to custom design your cabin, see the process here.

Contact your your nearest builder for a comprehensive quote on constructing your cabin. The builder will integrate locally sourced materials with the pre-fabricated Scandi cabin components made in Europe. When planning, consider the size of the decking area, roofing color, and additional features like railings or steps if building on a raised subfloor. Your builder can also help assess whether council approval is required for your project, ensuring a smooth and compliant build.

If you’re building a cabin under exempt development, you can skip this step. However, if you’re building a detached studio, your plans will need to be prepared for approval, either by a private certifier or through a Development Application (DA) with the council. Your builder together with our experienced design team can help you get all the necessary documentation ready to streamline the approval process.

Once all the details are confirmed, the next step is to sign the building contract with your backyard cabins builder. This formalizes the agreement, ensuring that both the kit supply and any additional services are clearly outlined. After signing, your builder will proceed with ordering your Scandi cabin and preparing for the build.

In this step, your builder will prepare the foundation for your backyard cabin, ensuring it’s level and ready for construction. They’ll also organize the connections for essential services like electricity and plumbing, setting the stage for a smooth installation process once your cabin arrives.

Once your cabin materials arrive, you’ll witness the speed and efficiency of the Scandinavian building system as your backyard cabin quickly takes shape. With the foundation already in place, most cabins are built to lockup within 1–3 days, and fully completed (turnkey) within 10 days, depending on the design and site. Additional features like custom decking, steps, and handrails may extend the build time.

Now it’s time to add the finishing touches, such as fittings, cabinetry, paint, and flooring. If you’ve chosen the turnkey option, your builder will complete all of this for you. Otherwise, you can take over from here and enjoy customizing the interior with your own style and features, making the space truly your own.

With the construction complete and finishing touches in place, it’s time to relax and enjoy your new backyard cabin. Whether it’s a cozy retreat, home office, or guest space, your new cabin is ready to be enjoyed for years to come!
