Owner-builder Neil wanted to add a bedroom to his home, and a DIY backyard cabin proved to be fast, simple, and affordable. When Neil decided to add guest accommodation to his Coolum Beach home, the ideal location was right next to his existing deck. Instead of removing the deck, he built the cabin alongside it, creating a seamless flow from the main house. The result? A beautiful addition that looks as though it’s always been part of the home.
DIY Cabin: A Simple Solution for Extra Space
While searching the internet for an easy-to-build, beach-style cabin, Neil found exactly what he was looking for. After meeting with Adrian Fields, our local representative at Classic Kit Homes, Neil knew the Foresta cabin was the perfect fit for his home improvement project.

Flow and Style with a DIY Touch
To create a natural flow from the house to the cabin, Neil stained the Foresta’s exterior with a Merbau natural water-based stain, and for the interior, he used a clear water-based stain, making the space feel cozy, light, and natural.
